The total number of Internet of Things connections will reach 83 billion by 2024, according to a new study by Juniper Research.
That would be an increase from 35 billion connections this year with 130% growth projected over the next four years.
Retail, manufacturing and agriculture are expected to account for the majority (70%) of IoT connections by 2024.
The number of industrial IoT units in service is projected to grow 180% over the next four years.
“IoT platforms must ensure that the security processes can scale alongside this network growth,” stated research co-author Sam Barker.
