Connected bottles are finally coming to the U.S.

California wine brand Boen, part of Cooper Cane Wines and Provisions by Joseph Wagner, is releasing 1 million NFC-connected wine bottles across the U.S.

The technology, developed by Guala Closures, comprises an aluminum wine closure with NFC built in.

An interactive experience is triggered when a consumer taps the cap with a phone.

After the tap, a consumer can see the vineyards where the wine is made, see food pairings and can share experiences on social media, all without having to download an app.

The agency behind the implementation was SharpEnd, which bills itself as the agency of things, which I have been writing about here since 2015 (‘Agency Of Things’ Aims To Connect Brands).
