Augmented reality is welcoming Walmart shoppers.

A Christmas Sleigh Ride AR activation is being featured in nine brand-sponsored aisles throughout 1,000 Walmart locations for the next four weeks.

A custom code using the Walmart AR Sleigh Ride app unlocks AR content from Clorox, Welch’s, Kellogg’s, PepsiCo, Nickelodeon, M&M’s, Blue Bunny Ice Cream and 3M. Characters including Kellogg’s Tony the Tiger and PepsiCo’s Chester the Cheetah are then virtually displayed via a smartphone screen.

“Augmented reality technology is transforming the way brick and mortar retailers market to, connect with and serve their customers,” stated Keith Curtin, vice president of Zappar, the AR development company that created the AR experience with Advantage Solutions.

While consumers may not be knowledgeable about augmented reality, major brands are now using it in fun and entertaining ways to engage customers, even in the aisles of major outlets like Walmart. Augmented reality is now mainstream.
